UTOPIAN GARDEN – A PLACE TO BECOME A BETTER YOU

From Berlin to Tacoma comes a dynamic project by the world-renowned, visionary design studio flora&faunavisions. Utopian Garden will bloom as an immersive, fully interactive experience where creativity and science come together in the natural world. Utopian Garden invites the audience to actively participate in a vivid immersion of nature at the Tacoma Armory. “We will fully engage visitors in both the science and mystery of Mother Earth, activating optimism of the amazing possibilities of our world,” says David Fischer, Executive Director of Tacoma Arts Live. Using a carefully applied understanding of art, science and nature, alongside the inspiring ideas of revered thinkers such as Ada Lovelace, Carl Linnaeus, and Claude Monet, Utopian Garden explores universal themes of creation and the power of human connection as a means of creating - and saving - our future.

The journey through Utopian Garden is one of ‘edutainment,’ combining fun and learning. An all-ages experience, Utopian Garden takes visitors on a rapturous journey where state-of-the-art projection mapping and fully interactive sensors allow the audience to co-create a design in nature, their own unique utopian garden. A dynamic and responsive sound design ensures every sense is activated. During a storyline in three parts, visitors are first invited to explore the dreams and ideas around “utopia.” Then, a series of breath-taking, interactive, game-like sequences immerse the visitor in real-life and fanciful possibilities where nature, science and art itself combine to teach better understanding of the complex nature of our world. In the end, visitors connect their actions and the beauty they helped create with hope and positivity for the future.

An additional hands-on workshop area picks up where the utopian immersive dream leaves off. An educational experience offering the chance for reflection and further understanding, the space provides the community with the opportunity to connect, to ask questions and deepen their understanding.
About flora&faunavisions
Utopian Garden expresses the talent and advancement achieved during 25 years of experience in the interactive design space. It is borne from a deep-seated desire to offer a beautiful, thought-provoking and inspiring experience for everyone. Following the amazing success of Genius (the immersive and exploratory journey through the eyes of visionary polymath Leonardo da Vinci set to visit locations throughout Europe and the US until 2025), Utopian Garden is flora&faunavisions’ most daring and expansive project to date.

For more than 25 years, flora&faunavisions has been bringing immersive and interactive experiences to life – from exhibitions and live music shows to fashion events and stage productions. The internationally award-winning design studio is consistently at the forefront of new technologies, operating at the intersection of light, artistic media, language and digital frameworks, challenging and enriching our perception of how we absorb spaces, stories, moments and the world that surrounds us. Recent acclaimed works include stage and festival designs for the electronic musicians Solomun and Paul Kalkbrenner and curating and designing the interactive exhibition Olympus Perspective Playground, which travelled to more than ten countries. The studio also created the hit immersive experiences Magenta Moon Garden and Genius in 2021, as well as the spatial musical production Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise, which premiered at the Shed in New York City. For 2023 flora&faunavisions is currently designing Wagner's The Ring Cycle for Opera Australia, and Insideout, which will open in Seattle, San Diego, Boston and Chicago as part of the permanent WNDR Museum collection.
