Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, is one of the best known operas of all time. The story, set during the Napoleonic occupation of Italy during the early 1800s, focuses on the heartrending, romantic triangle between Tosca, a famous and tempestuous singer, her lover Cavaradossi, a painter and political activist, and Scarpia, the corrupt chief of police who lusts for Tosca. Tosca is filled to the brim with compelling characters, intense drama and some of most glorious music ever written for the operatic stage. This is an opera you simply have to see.
