Arts Impact

Arts Impact is a two-year program that trains elementary classroom teachers to independently teach visual and performing arts. Each year, teachers participate in:

• One-Week Summer Institute: Intensive, hands-on, 30-hour training in foundational arts concepts and skills in visual art, dance and theater.
• Mentorship: Teachers are paired with an artist-mentor for a 9-10 hour mentorship during the school year. The artist mentor assists the teacher in planning, writing, teaching and assessing arts lessons.
• Free Cultural Study Trip for Teachers and Students: A classroom trip to the Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma Arts Live, Seattle Art Museum or a Seattle theater for an exhibit or a live performance allows teachers and their students to observe firsthand the concepts and skills being taught.
• Supplemental Workshops: Many workshops are offered throughout the year to deepen learning of arts concepts and skills. Teachers choose a minimum of two workshops. Additional clock hours are available for each workshop.
