Character Breakdown / Project Needs
BILLY: Male/20’s. The youngest child. Born deaf into a hearing family. Raised by this fiercely idiosyncratic, and politically incorrect family, to communicate by speaking and reading lips rather than signing. Seeking deaf, ASL fluent actors ONLY for this role. Open to deaf actors of all ethnicity, gender, gender identity, and disability. NON-UNION/AEA 

SYLVIA: Female/20’s-30’s. Born hearing, but on the brink of deafness. Communicates through sign, and voice, although as indicated in the script her voice is not “deaf”. Open to deaf and hearing actors. ASL fluency/experience preferred. If you are ASL fluent/experienced, please come prepared to sign the indicated bracketed text in the sides, otherwise read text aloud. Please prepare spoken lines in British dialect. Actors of all ethnicity and disability will be considered. NON-UNION 

DANIEL: Male/20’s-30’s. Billy’s brother. The oldest child. A year or two older than Ruth. A struggling writer living at home. Actors of all ethnicity and disability will be considered. NON-UNION/AEA 

RUTH: Female/20’s-30’s. Billy’s sister. Middle child. A year or two older than Billy. A struggling opera singer living at home. Actors of all ethnicity and disability will be considered. NON-UNION 

CHRISTOPHER: Male/50’s-60’s. Billy’s father. Actors of all ethnicity and disability will be considered. NON-UNION/AEA 

BETH: Female/50’s-60’s. Billy’s mother. Actors of all ethnicity and disability will be considered. NON-UNION/AEA
